We're FULLY Potty-Trained!

It's official and I just have to brag...Christopher is officially 100% potty trained!!! Woo hoo!!! 2 years, 9 months and 3 weeks old!!! He's been day trained for quite some time now (since beginning of September). He's also been night trained for a while, but I was keeping a Pull-Up on him "just in case" because I wasn't ready. He's stayed dry for a few weeks and has even gotten up in the middle of the night to go potty, so I finally took the plunge on Monday, Oct. 6 and let him wear his underwear to bed. So far, he's doing excellent!

I know I'm lucky, but I can't believe how incredibly easy he's been to train!!! I've always heard of the nightmares parents have, but Christopher made things easy! Overall, though, he's been a VERY easy baby and now toddler, so it's not unlike him at all. It has, however, made me a bit more unsure of having a 2nd child. We can't be lucky enough to have TWO easy kids, can we??? More than likely, with our luck, #2 will be the complete opposite of Christopher and make me dead positive that we won't be having 3 kids! LOL!

Are We Nearly Trained???

While on vacation, I took underwear for Christopher, but didn't put on a single pair. Instead, when not in his swimsuit, he wore Pull-Ups. So, after we got home, I wasn't sure how he'd do going back into underwear. Well, we began, once again, the quest to be day-trained on Monday (8/25). We had the sporadic accidents all week long...until Saturday (8/30) when he stayed dry! We are now on Day 7 of absolutely NO accidents during the day!!! Woo hoo!!! To top it off, he started preschool on Tuesday. Since he'd been doing so well, I didn't want to mess things up, so I sent him in underwear with Pull-Ups in his bag for naptime and just in case. I was thrilled when I picked him up and saw that he was wearing the same shorts I put on him that morning! So, we've marched on and haven't looked back! He can also make it through naptimes with no accidents, so I think I'm ready to make the switch there, too. We're getting close to being night-trained as well, but I don't quite have confidence that he can stay dry every night. It's part of our bedtime routine now to go potty and he *has* woken me up in the night saying he had to go, but he's also had a wet Pull-Up from not going first thing in the morning. So, we're still working on it. I probably just need to go ahead and bite the bullet and let him wear underwear to bed since I think the Pull-Ups sometimes make him lazy. I don't know. I'd like to try a bit longer to make sure he can stay dry all night or can get up to go potty.

But for now, I think it's safe to say that he's day trained! Woo hoo!!! Looking back, it really wasn't too bad. After initially dropping diapers during the day (August 1), he started off doing really good in Pull-Ups. However, our biggest interruption (as expected) was our week-long vacation. Once we got home, though, and resumed our normal routine, he started doing great again! I was a bit worried about starting school, but as always, he's shown me that there's no reason to worry! So, overall, it's taken us right at about 1 month to day-train, including the 1 week vacation set-back. Not bad!

He Stayed Dry!

We were at church all morning until shortly after lunch and Christopher actually stayed dried the ENTIRE time!!! Woo hoo!!! Of course, he insisted on trying way too often, but it gave him more opportunities to actually go. I think he was just bored and liked washing his hands afterward since he could do it all by himself (he needs help at home). After he wakes up from his nap, we'll attempt underwear for the rest of the day. Hopefully, that will be successful, too!

We're leaving Saturday morning for Destin, so unless something big happens, I probably won't post again until after we get back on Saturday, August 23. Please pray for safe travels for us (and a smooth car ride with Christopher)! Thanks! :-) I'll post pictures after we get home and I get them sorted and uploaded.

Potty Training Update

We're on a roll with potty training!!! Christopher has now pooped in the potty for TWO days in a row! Woohoo!!! Granted, he's not telling me yet...I'm having to take him...but it's a start! He does really well peeing on the potty when he's naked or when I keep after him. He has actually told me twice now that he needs to go (not counting bathtimes where he tends to like to go at least 3 times). However, the one time I tried undies, he flunked. :( That's okay, though. I can't expect a miracle overnight; it's definitely going to take some time. I'm really hoping he's either fully trained or mostly trained by the time school starts back in September, but won't be pushing anything. I'm confident that he won't be going to Kindergarten wearing Pull-Ups or diapers! ;) Of course, I'm definitely hoping that we're not still buying diapers/Pull-Ups when he's 4! He's a smart cookie, though, so am sure he'll catch on soon enough. :)

Potty Training Update

Christopher has peed on the potty 1x a day for 3 days in a row now!!! YAY!!! We're so excited!!! The first day (Monday), it happened after I let him run around naked due to a diaper rash. He followed me into the bathroom and copied me using his little training potty. On the second day (Tuesday), I managed to get him to go by bribing him with candy. :P I really didn't want to go that route, but it's working, so I'll use it. He only gets something IF he pees. We tried again before bedtime that night, but he didn't have to go. I've been sick today with a stomach bug, so didn't bother with the potty training. Shad put Christopher to bed tonight and tried to get him to go before changing his clothes. Of course, Christopher refused at first, but ran right to the potty when asked if he'd go for candy. Once again, he peed! :D I'm really wondering if Pull-Ups is the route to go for him. They're so much like diapers that he's had no problem peeing in them. However, since we're just beginning, I'm going to give it some more time before going straight to the underwear. I'm not ready for those messes yet!

Two Big Steps in One Day!

Christopher had TWO accomplishments in ONE day today!

First of all, he PURPOSELY peed on the potty! It happened this morning after bathtime. He had finished drying off and was standing naked when he started to pee, but stopped. I then quickly put him on his potty seat on the toilet where he started again! I was so excited for him! I put a Pull-Up on him, but couldn't repeat the success. I figure now we'll start working a little harder on potty-training.

Here's an edited picture of him sitting on his little potty before bathtime:

His second accomplishment was learning how to pedal his tricycle FORWARD! He's been able to pedal backward for a few weeks now, but I managed to get him to try going forward today. He still prefers to push himself rather than pedal, but I know that'll change over time.

Here's a video of him pedaling his tricycle:

Let the Potty Training Begin!!!

Christopher is 2 years 1 month and 2 days old

Gotta share our exciting news...

CHRISTOPHER PEED IN THE POTTY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER TONIGHT!!!!!

I've been sitting him on it on occasion, but tonight while we were playing before bedtime, he started grunting and I just knew he was pooping. I attempted to get him to the toilet in time, but it was a hopeless race since it takes time to get to him, pick him up, run to the bathroom, get the potty seat in place (the one that sits on the toilet), pull his pants down, take his diaper off and get him on the seat. HOWEVER, I DID manage to get him on it in time for him to PEE!!! It wasn't much, but it was enough to let him know that it was a reason to celebrate!

He got 2 M&M's as his reward. I know we've got a LONG road ahead of us, but at least we've started! (Can you tell I'm ecstatic??? ) I'm planning to go buy some Pull Ups this weekend!

Also wanted to share the video we took tonight right before he went potty. Christopher's catching a ball thrown by Daddy. Shad "fixed up" the video with our new Adobe Premier Elements. And, yes, he's on roller skates in the still-shot at the end (his birthday gift from my older sister, Christy):
