5 weeks 5 days - First Prenatal Visit

Today was my first prenatal visit with the doctor. Since I wasn't thinking and scheduled this one for in the morning, Shad wasn't able to come along (he works 3rd shift and sleeps during the day). In the future, I'll make my appointments for in the afternoon so he can be there, too.

My doctor went over family medical history, what to expect in the way of prenatal care, what to expect at my next visit, any questions I had and he informed me of the 15-20% chance of miscarriage. I also had an exam, blood work and urine test. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about anymore blood work for a while, but I guess I have to get used to the urine test as that's done at each visit.

The doctor confirmed my estimated due date of December 24. He doesn't see anything that would put me into the high risk category, so all's well there. He did mention that because of my size, depending on the size of the baby, I have a higher chance of needing a c-section, which is something I figured going into this. I guess I'm hoping not to have a big baby!

My next appointment is on Thursday, May 26 at 3:30 pm. I'll be almost 10 weeks along, so they'll be doing a sonogram! That's when I'll feel more relieved about how the baby is doing. I believe he told me that if everything's okay with the sonogram, they'll schedule an ultrasound for 2 weeks later. I really look forward to that as Shad and I have both determined that we want to find out the sex if it's possible.

Symptoms: I'm still hungry more often and have indigestion somewhat frequently. Other than that, I've been a bit more tired the last few days. I did have a couple of days where I felt "blah," but still no morning sickness, thankfully!

5 weeks 2 days

Well, the cat's officially out of the bag now. After finding out that people at church knew, I figured I may as well go ahead and let everyone else know, too. Maybe we can keep it to ourselves a little longer when/if we have a second child.

Today's been a kind of "blah" day. The heartburn/indigestion has been pretty strong and I've had a little more of the nauseous feeling. Plus, I've been SO tired. During my lunch break, I went home and even tried to take a nap. Thirty minutes just isn't long enough, though!

I've had so much to do at work today and just don't *feel* like doing anything at all. Unfortunately, I've got to do what I've got to do to get paid.

Shad's got a softball game tonight and I told one of his teammates that I planned to be there, so he asked if I'd care to watch his 2 children while he played. I'd probably stay home otherwise. Oh well...I like getting out and watching his games, so I'll just go to bed early tonight.

5 weeks 1 day

Well, our news is now officially out at church, too! In Sunday School, there were only 2 other couples in the room when one person asked if our news was public knowledge yet. Since the other couple in there was also expecting, I went ahead and told them. Then, shortly thereafter, a 3rd couple walked in and said that they had a praise...they're expecting, too! So, now in our class, we have 3 couples pregnant. The first is due at the end of August, I'm due December 24 and the 3rd couple is due December 27. It's all so neat! Our close friends are still planning to start ttc in July, so maybe their child and ours will all be very close in ages.

I ended up calling to tell my dad our news last night. I really wanted to tell him in person, but since we'd already told my mom, aunt and FIL, I felt that it wasn't fair to wait so long to tell my dad.

I still need to call my older sister to tell her myself. I figure she'll spread the news in PA for me, so I'll just e-mail other distant relatives and friends sometime later.

Symptoms: STILL nothing different...mainly just hungry more often, although I don't eat more than usual in one sitting.
