Highlights from January:
- The hubby and I got new iPhone 4's as a belated Christmas gift to each other.
- Little Man is really into weather and tornadoes. He says he's going to be a Meteorologist when he grows up.
- Little Man'ism: "I'm starting to do new things now that I'm 5. Things I couldn't do when I was 4." He was referring to learning how to make his bed, FINALLY being able to snap his jeans and being able to open his Lunchable dessert.
- Hubby had a stomach bug at the beginning of the month. Yay. After he got better, even though we were cooped up in the house thanks to snow, Little Man ended up with a stomach bug several days later. I blame it on the germy grocery cart since it was our 1 and only outing that week.
- We began our journey of finding the "perfect" school for Little Man. Endured testing at 2 different magnet schools. At the first magnet school, testing included: writing his name, numbers 1-10, shapes in the order that was told, draw a picture of himself, telling his favorite color and reading the number 1,120. At the second magnet school, testing was a bit different. This actually took 1 hour 35 minutes! They did break it up, although didn't let them run around and play during the break like I expected. They were taken to the gym, told to sit in chairs and, from what Little Man told me, watched the big kids play while doing some clapping activities. The only part he could explain to me about the testing was that there were 2 workbooks. In the first, they were told a story and had to remember it the 1st time; it wouldn't be repeated. Then, there were pictures they had to put in order of the story. When I asked how he thought he did, he said "good." He had a hard time explaining what they did in the 2nd workbook, but later said it was like a puzzle. There was a picture that was missing a section and they had to find the correct piece amongst 5 possibilities. He said there were 46 (!) pages (2 puzzles per page), but he could only get to page 41. I didn't care for that style of testing at all. I felt interviewing the kids would be more efficient. Little Man was accepted into the first magnet school, so that's the school he'll be attending.
- We bought a little fixer-upper fishing boat!
- Little Man'ism: Tonight at supper, Little Man told the meteorologist on tv, "Well duh! Of course there's no snow here yet!"
- Little Man tested for magnet school #1.
