April 2011

Highlights from April:

- Started the month with Little Man's Opening Day of Baseball and my MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Walk on the same Saturday. His game and my walk both started at the same time, too. Little Man's team lost, but it was only 1 of 2 losses for the entire regular season!

- The evening of the same day we had Opening Day and my MS Walk, I had a Moms Night Out at Arrington Vineyard. It was my first visit and I really enjoyed it!

- We had the standard severe spring weather with a couple of scary days. In one day (April 27), there were 3 rounds that brought tornado warnings to the southeastern U.S. The first round was bad enough to prompt us to wake up Little Man, put his bicycle helmet on him and hide in our hallway. I heard sounds that I'd never heard before during a storm! Thankfully, the only damage was lots of trees down around town, including in our own neighborhood. We only had a few branches down in our yard, though. That sure was a very stressful day! It was later confirmed that our town had straight-line winds and 2 EF-0 tornados. With that said, our prayers went out to Huntsville, AL and Joplin, MO who were hit with EF-4 and EF-5 tornadoes. :(

- Little Man found out that he would be wearing a gown for preschool graduation. He was pretty upset about having to wear "girls' clothes" until we reassured him that boys wear graduation gowns, too.

- Little Man was diagnosed with his first ear infection since he was 15 months old as well as a sinus infection. He took his usual antibiotic...Z-pack...which did absolutely NOTHING for him this time. Five days later, he was complaining about his other ear hurting, so back to the doctor we went...on MY BIRTHDAY! As it turned out, since he's allergic to Amoxicillin/Penicillin/etc., had already tried Omnicef and Suprax unsuccessfully when he had his last round of EI's (12-15 mos old) and now the Z-pack won't work, the only options left were injections. Try telling that to a 5-year old that's TERRIFIED of shots! To top it off, he needed THREE doses! I couldn't bear making him go through that, so did some research and found a few antibiotics to suggest to the pediatrician. She okay'd one of them: Ceftibuten (Cedax). It was a 10-day prescription, but at least he didn't have to get anymore shots! THANKFULLY, between the 2 shots he did get and the Ceftibuten, the EI and sinus infection cleared up completely! From first symptom to final dose of Ceftibuten was almost 3 weeks!

- Hubby surprised me with a trip to The Melting Pot for my birthday! We usually do that every year at this time, but didn't get to last year due to our schedules and didn't think we'd get to this year for the same reason.

- Hubby ended up with Strep Throat. Thankfully, it didn't get passed around the family!

- Little Man was introduced to a Whoopee Cushion for his first time.

- Found out on April 26 that Little Man had his first loose teeth (yes, TEETH!): 2 bottoms and 1 top! It would still be a few months before the first one would fall out.

- Found time to read "Water for Elephants" on my Kindle for iPhone. LOVED it and decided I couldn't wait to see the movie
