Softball Tournament Final Results

Well, does this answer the question, "How did Third Baptist Church do in the tournament?"

Yep, WE WON 1ST PLACE!!!!!! That's me on the front row on the far left.

For our first game, we played World Outreach Church and barely squeezed by in that game. We won 8-7. We started out really good, but it just got ugly from there. It's the win that counts, though! I was the lead-off batter and while running to 1st base (just after stepping on the base), the ball hit me in the ankle and left a nasty purple bruise. After scoring, I went into the dugout and put ice on it pretty quickly, which helped a lot. At least it's not purple anymore. I don't even remember how I did batting during that game. It's all a blur. I DO remember that we had too many get past us in the field. :p We weren't about to make that same mistake in the championship game!

For our 2nd game, we ended up playing Lady Elite (surprise, surprise!) since they won their playoff game and made it into the championship game. We won 8-4 (not by 1 run...YAY!). Boy, was that a VERY SERIOUS game! Oh my goodness! I haven't seen ballplaying like that since my sister played on tournament teams when she was 14, 15, 16 years old! The other team was actually purposely walking a few of our batters just to keep the force outs (which was mainly me :p). Thankfully, it didn't do them any bit of good since the next batter that was allowed to bat, had a good hit, so got me home with no problem. Of course, the game wasn't easy AT ALL! We fought with all we had and, thankfully, it paid off!

As far as hitting for me...I did pretty good. Nothing extraordinary, but I DID burn the leftfielder a little. She was playing me too shallow (wasn't expecting me to hit it there since I'd been hitting it up the center all night), so it went over her head, but she was fast and had an arm, so I only got a double out of it. I can't remember if I ended up scoring or not, though. I came in a few times during that game.

Out in the field, the only action that I really had was 1 fly ball that I caught. Otherwise, I think I stopped a grounder and got it into 2nd no problem.

Here's a picture of everybody taken before our games:

Back Row (L-R): Danielle (LF), Jessica R. (RF), Kimberly (LCF), Lindsey (C/Sub/bookkeeper), Ashley (coach), Jessica F. (DH/Sub/bookkeeper), Robbie (1st), Sonya (1st/Sub), Jessica B. (DH)

Front Row (L-R): Caresa (SS/2nd), Tami (RCF), Rachel (C), Meagan (2nd/SS), Mary Beth (3rd), Kelly (P/coach)

So, softball season is now over...until co-ed in the Fall, anyway! Shad and I were always subs in previous years until I was asked to be a regular player last year. I don't know if I'll be a regular player this year, too, or not. I know that Shad would really like to play more this Fall than he did last year. I guess we'll see when that time comes. I have about a 2 month break.

We'll have an end-of-the-season cookout for our championship team at some point soon. Probably in the next couple of weeks. It'll be nice to socialize with all my teammates while not playing a game!

Now that softball's over with, I don't know what I'm going to do. That was my main source of exercise! Oh well...I'm still getting some upper-leg exercises at Christopher's swim lessons! LOL!

On the Mend

I think Christopher's finally getting over that stomach bug! I don't know which of the times he actually had it, but he ended up getting sick on Tuesday (April 24), Saturday (April 28), Sunday (April 29) and Tuesday (April 30). I think a couple of those times were actually from the dairy products he had (milk and cheese). After getting sick, I wouldn't let him have any for that day and the next, but would resume on the 2nd day. I guess that wasn't long enough. Except for about 4 oz of Acidopholus milk at bedtime, he hasn't had any since this past Tuesday (April 30). Thankfully, he hasn't had anymore incidents! I'm planning to hold off until this Saturday just to make sure. As for his dirty diapers, he's only had diarrhea for more than a week now. I know that lingers around longer, though, so will just give him some more time.

Instead of the stomach bug, though, he's now dealing with allergies. He's had a clear, runny nose for several days, a loose cough since Tuesday and watery eyes off an on for a couple of days. I forgot to give him his Claritin for a couple of days and now he's paying for it. Bad Mommy!

Christopher and I have been spending our week doing the usual: working in the church nursery on Wednesday mornings for the Women's Bible Study, Wednesday evenings for regular stuff and Sunday evenings for regular stuff. However, the Women's Bible Study ends next week and the Sunday evening classes end this Sunday, so I don't know what I'm going to do with Christopher and myself for the next 2 months! We don't count the paychecks I get in with our regular income since it varies so much, but going almost 2 months without that isn't going to be fun!

Christopher and I were at church this morning so I could go through training in the class I'll be working with next school year (2 year olds). I basically watched what the assistant teacher was doing so I could get an idea of what I'll need to do. It's definitely a job and a half, but I think I'll have fun. I already know a few of the 2 year olds who will be in my class, so that helps.

While I was observing in my class, Christopher hung out in the 1 year old class. He got to play with them during their playtime, eat lunch (I remembered to pack a lunch this time) and then attempt a nap. He did just fine until naptime. They sleep on mats on the floor, while Christopher's only used to sleeping in his crib (or sometimes in his carseat). He didn't want to lay down and kept crying, so I eventually went and got him and took him home for his nap. I've already been warned, though, that come Fall, the first two weeks or so will probably be rough on him while he adjusts to the new naptime method. I'm just glad that I'll be in a different room down the hall and won't be able to hear him! My poor baby! At least I'll be in the same building, though, if I'm needed for any reason.

Last night at church, I was asked to help out with sorting and organizing VBS t-shirts. I now have a clothes basket and HUGE garbage bag FULL of clothes to go through...and there's more to come next week! We have our VBS June 4-8 and I'll be working with the 3-year old class. Sounds like there's going to be several "assistant" teachers. I'll probably be the "main assistant," though, since the others are only minors. There will be 2 adults and 2 minors helping. Makes me wonder just how big the 3-year old class will be! I didn't think it would be too big since the only preschool age children allowed to be there are the volunteers' kids. The minimum age for VBS is kindergarten (must have completed the grade). We have one more workers' meeting to attend and a couple of kick-off activities and then it's time! Only 5 more weeks left!

Shad still refuses to help out after getting stuck with 40 wild 3rd graders a few years ago! He said he'd work anywhere needed, so got assigned as the MAIN teacher of that class! And 40 was what HE had in HIS class! There were actually 80 3rd graders, so they split them into 2 classes. For someone who's only used to dealing with teenagers, he DID NOT like that situation! He won't even volunteer for menial tasks now. In his defense, though, he's already used 1 week of vacation on a mission trip to NOLA with our church and needs to save the rest for holidays at the end of the year. The last VBS he did was while he still worked 3rd shift, so was available during the mornings.

Not much else going on for now. I'm still playing softball. I can't remember how many wins/losses we have, but I think we've only lost 1...and that was against a non-church team, so it didn't count anyway. We have a double-header on Monday night at 8:00 and 9:00 (yucky times!). Shad's going to re-evaluate how he feels for next week's games. He skipped out this week to give his back some time to mend, but he's adament about playing again in the next couple of weeks. MEN! He didn't get to play last Fall in the co-ed league, so has been itching to play this Spring. I just hope he doesn't overdo it! We sure don't need him in the hospital!!!

Well, time to go work on those shirts before Christopher wakes up.
