9 weeks 6 days - We Have a Heartbeat!!!

Well, I had the sonogram yesterday and WE HAVE A HEARTBEAT!!! The doctor estimated the rate to be about 140 bpm.

After much confusion about what was going to actually happen at my appointment (I've found that people use the terms sonogram and ultrasound interchangably), it turned out to be just a minor thing. The doctor had a transducer attached to a speaker that he moved around my stomach. It was as simple as that. No images...nothing internal. And it only took a couple of minutes.

After hearing that it might be done internally, poor Shad reluctantly opted out of going with me. He was kicking himself afterward, though! Well, now we know how it's done and what to expect from a sonogram in the future.

My next appointment is June 23 and the doctor will do the same thing. Shad will definitely be there for that one! Two months from now (18 weeks along), we'll have an ultrasound. That one might be done internally. I told Shad that if he wants to be there to actually see the baby, he has 2 months to prepare himself. He said that he'll just have to suck it up and go.

As far as symptoms go...basically all I've really been dealing with this week is indigestion. I'm not quite as hungry, tired, or blah as I've been in the past, so maybe it's easing up. I only have 2 more weeks until I'm out of the first trimester. I did find out that I actually LOST 2 lbs from my last visit 4 weeks ago! I feel like I'm eating so frequently and I've only been sick the one time. I don't understand how I've actually LOST weight. I guess I shouldn't complain as I'll be gaining a bunch before I know it!

Monday is Memorial Day. As of now, our weekend plans include taking Brinkley to the vet Saturday morning for his annual shots and then FINALLY going to the Melting Pot Saturday evening. Of course, we'll have church Sunday. I think Monday we'll have friends over to grill out. Other than that, it's just going to be a lazy weekend!

I hope everyone has/had a great Memorial Day weekend!
