Christopher As An Only Child???

I really hope not, but after Shad and I had a discussion late last night, it's not looking too good. I know I've said in the past that I'd be okay having only Christopher (I feel blessed to just have ONE!), but I'll be heartbroken if we can't have another! As a child, I always planned on having at least 2 kids. It used to be 3, but in the last few years, I lowered it to 2. Also, I want so badly to have a daughter. I've had the name Rebecca Lynn picked out since before Shad and I were even married. If Christopher were a girl, that's what he would've been named. I realize that, even if we have a 2nd child, there's no guarantee we'll have a girl, but I'd at least like the chance to try.

Due to several difficult life circumstances, though, it's not looking like we'll have the chance to try for another anytime soon. I know that God has a plan for us, but sometimes it's so difficult to do what he wants!

UPDATE on the Big Boy Bed

So, last night was Christopher's first night in his Big Boy bed and, wouldn't you know it, he fell out. Around 1:30, I woke quickly to his frantic cry and I knew immediately that he'd fallen out. Shad and I both ran to his rescue, but, thanks to the pillowed padding I had on the floor, he wasn't hurt, just scared. I put him right back in his bed and tucked him in, but he didn't want me to leave. Each time I tried to get up and walk out, he rolled over and whimpered, "Mama." So, I stayed sitting on the floor resting my head next to him while rubbing his back. It didn't take too long for him to go back to sleep.

Thankfully, that was the only time he fell out. However, he woke up around 6:00 crying for me. You know...he never did get out of bed on his own (during naptime or bedtime). I'm betting that I just need to give him a few days and he'll get the hang of it.

So, he woke up around 6:00...shortly after Shad left for work...proclaiming that he was hungry. Since it was so early and still dark outside, I wouldn't let him get up. So, I went and got him a little bit of milk and a cereal bar. He took one mini-bite of the cereal bar and then drank all of his milk. I tucked him back in and he went right to sleep and slept until about 8:30.

I'm going today to look for some type of 3/4-length guard rail to install before tonight. If I can't find anything, Shad's going to concoct something of his own. Hopefully tonight is better for Christopher!

The Big Boy Bed!

Well, we've decided to make the switch from crib to Big Boy bed! Christopher's crib is a 2-in-1...it's a crib first and then a toddler bed. We took the crib railing off after church today and put up the toddler "guard rail." The term "guard rail" is deceiving, though, as it's not *really* a guard rail. It's just a support railing to help hold the mattress in place. Therefore, there's no actual guard rail to keep him from falling out. However, just in case he does, I've put some pillows and an old quilt on the floor to pad things. Hopefully, it won't need to be used.

We used naptime today to experiment and he did GREAT! He really enjoyed climbing in and out on his own (of course!). However, when it came time to take his nap, he wasn't too keen on the idea of going to sleep. He cried and cried, but SURPRISINGLY, he never once got out of bed! I hope it's not beginner's luck and that tonight will go just as smoothly!

Here's a couple of pictures from today's naptime:
