On the Mend

I think Christopher's finally getting over that stomach bug! I don't know which of the times he actually had it, but he ended up getting sick on Tuesday (April 24), Saturday (April 28), Sunday (April 29) and Tuesday (April 30). I think a couple of those times were actually from the dairy products he had (milk and cheese). After getting sick, I wouldn't let him have any for that day and the next, but would resume on the 2nd day. I guess that wasn't long enough. Except for about 4 oz of Acidopholus milk at bedtime, he hasn't had any since this past Tuesday (April 30). Thankfully, he hasn't had anymore incidents! I'm planning to hold off until this Saturday just to make sure. As for his dirty diapers, he's only had diarrhea for more than a week now. I know that lingers around longer, though, so will just give him some more time.

Instead of the stomach bug, though, he's now dealing with allergies. He's had a clear, runny nose for several days, a loose cough since Tuesday and watery eyes off an on for a couple of days. I forgot to give him his Claritin for a couple of days and now he's paying for it. Bad Mommy!

Christopher and I have been spending our week doing the usual: working in the church nursery on Wednesday mornings for the Women's Bible Study, Wednesday evenings for regular stuff and Sunday evenings for regular stuff. However, the Women's Bible Study ends next week and the Sunday evening classes end this Sunday, so I don't know what I'm going to do with Christopher and myself for the next 2 months! We don't count the paychecks I get in with our regular income since it varies so much, but going almost 2 months without that isn't going to be fun!

Christopher and I were at church this morning so I could go through training in the class I'll be working with next school year (2 year olds). I basically watched what the assistant teacher was doing so I could get an idea of what I'll need to do. It's definitely a job and a half, but I think I'll have fun. I already know a few of the 2 year olds who will be in my class, so that helps.

While I was observing in my class, Christopher hung out in the 1 year old class. He got to play with them during their playtime, eat lunch (I remembered to pack a lunch this time) and then attempt a nap. He did just fine until naptime. They sleep on mats on the floor, while Christopher's only used to sleeping in his crib (or sometimes in his carseat). He didn't want to lay down and kept crying, so I eventually went and got him and took him home for his nap. I've already been warned, though, that come Fall, the first two weeks or so will probably be rough on him while he adjusts to the new naptime method. I'm just glad that I'll be in a different room down the hall and won't be able to hear him! My poor baby! At least I'll be in the same building, though, if I'm needed for any reason.

Last night at church, I was asked to help out with sorting and organizing VBS t-shirts. I now have a clothes basket and HUGE garbage bag FULL of clothes to go through...and there's more to come next week! We have our VBS June 4-8 and I'll be working with the 3-year old class. Sounds like there's going to be several "assistant" teachers. I'll probably be the "main assistant," though, since the others are only minors. There will be 2 adults and 2 minors helping. Makes me wonder just how big the 3-year old class will be! I didn't think it would be too big since the only preschool age children allowed to be there are the volunteers' kids. The minimum age for VBS is kindergarten (must have completed the grade). We have one more workers' meeting to attend and a couple of kick-off activities and then it's time! Only 5 more weeks left!

Shad still refuses to help out after getting stuck with 40 wild 3rd graders a few years ago! He said he'd work anywhere needed, so got assigned as the MAIN teacher of that class! And 40 was what HE had in HIS class! There were actually 80 3rd graders, so they split them into 2 classes. For someone who's only used to dealing with teenagers, he DID NOT like that situation! He won't even volunteer for menial tasks now. In his defense, though, he's already used 1 week of vacation on a mission trip to NOLA with our church and needs to save the rest for holidays at the end of the year. The last VBS he did was while he still worked 3rd shift, so was available during the mornings.

Not much else going on for now. I'm still playing softball. I can't remember how many wins/losses we have, but I think we've only lost 1...and that was against a non-church team, so it didn't count anyway. We have a double-header on Monday night at 8:00 and 9:00 (yucky times!). Shad's going to re-evaluate how he feels for next week's games. He skipped out this week to give his back some time to mend, but he's adament about playing again in the next couple of weeks. MEN! He didn't get to play last Fall in the co-ed league, so has been itching to play this Spring. I just hope he doesn't overdo it! We sure don't need him in the hospital!!!

Well, time to go work on those shirts before Christopher wakes up.

More Bad Luck

We woke up as usual this morning to get ready for church. However, while feeding Christopher breakfast, he threw up AGAIN! I left him and Shad home since I work the nursery and really need to be there. I really hope this bug doesn't keep cycling and that Shad and I don't end up getting it again! I've been spraying Lysol frequently and washing my hands and using hand sanitizer TONS! Dadgummit...I'm not gonna get sick again!!!

I normally wake Christopher up on Sunday mornings at 7:00, but this morning, he decided to wake up around 5:45. Therefore, he was very ready for a nap by 10:00! Since he was home, Shad put him down around that time. Unfortunately, he only slept for about 45 minutes. So, I got him up, fed him a little (ate just fine) and let him play before he was ready for yet another nap around 12:30. We were watching a movie, so I let him nurse which was where he fell asleep. He slept for about 20-30 minutes and then was ready to go for another couple of hours. He is now napping for a THIRD time today!

I'm about to head back to church to work the nursery for a couple of hours. Shad's staying home since he doesn't think there's any choir/orchestra rehearsal tonight. Plus, Richard's here to visit since he couldn't make it last evening.

We've got our next softball game tomorrow night at 6:00. Hopefully, Christopher will be back to normal and Shad and I won't be sick by that point!!!

Mommy's Rough Week

Shad's Bad Back

Well, Shad reaggravated the herniated disks in his back on Monday evening. He was on the floor doing his back exercises before his softball game. He went to stand up and had a severe spasm. He was in so much pain that I almost called for an ambulance. He couldn't move, much less sit or stand. He was basically stuck on his hands and knees, but still wasn't comfortable. His reaction to the pain really scared Christopher. Poor thing was crying right along with Daddy! When Shad was finally able to get into the recliner, he wanted me to bring Christopher over to see him. However, Christopher didn't want anything to do with Shad, which upset Shad even more. If it hadn't been for the Lortab that was leftover from my gallbladder surgery, he wouldn't have made it through the night!

After being drugged up, he was able to sleep until it all wore off. Around 2:00, he woke up in as much agony as when it first happened. I got up to get some more Lortab and stayed awake with him until he fell back asleep around 3:00. Since he couldn't move to any other position besides his back, he couldn't roll onto his sides. When he sleeps on his back, HE SNORES. Therefore, between being wide awake anyway and his snoring, I couldn't go back to sleep. Finally around 6:30 (yep, still awake!), I moved out to the couch to try and salvage a little bit of sleep. I think I dozed for about an hour, but Christopher woke me up around 8:00. So, I went off of about 4 hours of sleep on Tuesday. No fun!

I took Shad to see his doctor on Tuesday morning. Thankfully, he was able to move a little better and was able to get out of the car and walk into the doctor's office (unlike last time which resulted in an overnight hospital stay)! He got a Cortizone shot and was sent home with prescriptions for a steroid, a muscle relaxer and some more Lortab. He also took yesterday and today off work, but is planning on going back tomorrow. He's moving around much better now, but won't be playing any golf or softball for a while! He claims his problems resulted from not being in shape or using his muscles enough. He played a softball game on Friday night and then turned around and played in a church golf scramble Saturday morning. He was pretty sore after playing golf on Saturday, but was planning to play softball again on Monday night. I guess that was too much for him, though.

Another Stomach Bug for Christopher

When I went to get Christopher up on Tuesday morning, before ever walking into his room, I realized something bad...he threw up sometime in the night! When I opened his bedroom door, his room REEKED! Christopher, though, was as happy as usual and ready to get up, eat breakfast and play. So, I cleaned up as much as I could and then fed him a little cereal. Unfortunately, I forgot to not give him milk and after drinking almost a full sippy cup, everything from breakfast came back up...before he even got out of his highchair! Ugh! So, now not only did I have a husband not able to do much for himself, but I also had a sick baby!

I had a softball game on Tuesday and Shad assured me that he'd be okay with Christopher. I told him not to put him to bed since he didn't need to be lifting anything, but apparently, Christopher couldn't make it until I got home. So, I got home to Christopher in bed sound asleep. Since I wasn't planning on Shad doing the bedtime routine, I didn't give him any bedtime instructions, including NO MILK. Of course, he didn't know he wasn't supposed to give Christopher milk, so that's what he put in the bedtime sippy. As a result, Christopher got sick just a little bit overnight. So, more sheets and pj's and carpet to clean on Wednesday!

He's had a couple of runny diapers and a little bit of a decreased appetite today, but overall has been okay. I tried nursing a few times to supplement, but he actually refused it once. That was a first! He started to refuse it a second time, but decided at the last second that he wanted to afterall. LOL! So, no milk at bedtime tonight and we've been trying to follow the BRAT diet. Hopefully, he'll be completely over the bug tomorrow!

He's got his second dentist appointment tomorrow afternoon. They'll just do another exam. I'm sure he'll cry like he did the first time. I'm wondering if he's too young yet. I don't want to scare him so much that he won't have anything to do with the dentist when he really needs to start going!
