10 Weeks 1 Day Old

I had my doctor's appointment yesterday for my Tendonitis. The doctor gave me a Cortizone shot and a brace to wear on my hand and wrist. The shot ended up not being so bad. The nurse sprayed some kind of cold spray on my wrist while the doctor gave the injection, which had both Corizone and Litocaine in it. I now have to wear the brace all the time until my follow-up appointment on March 29. It makes everything so much more difficult!

Christopher's now fairly regular about when he wakes up at night. I've been putting him down at 9:30 pm and he sleeps until somewhere around 3:30 or 4:45 am. I've got a Size 2 diaper on him at night, so we don't have to change it until we get up in the morning. Then, it's usually only wet and not dirty.

I have now been away from work all week. I was hoping to get in one or two days, but have been unable to find someone to watch Christopher for us. Hopefully next week Shad can stay home one or two days for me. Hopefully. I'm also hoping that my boss will go ahead and make some kind of decision soon so this doesn't drag on much longer. I just hope that when he does make his decision, it's to eliminate my position and not fire me!

I am such a horrible secret-keeper!!! My sister was planning to come down from Pennsylvania to surprise my mom next week for her birthday. She went ahead and told me last week and I was doing so good at not saying anything! I had just spoken to her on Tuesday and turned around and called my mom when I let it slip! Uff da!!! I told Mindy today from now on to go ahead and surprise me, too, since I can't seem to keep a secret! What's funny is that I can keep other secrets such as gifts just fine. So why couldn't I keep this one??? Grrrr.....

Our good friends found out on Monday that they're having a girl!!! :D I'm so excited for them. They originally had their ultrasound last week, but the results on the sex were inconclusive, so they went back this week just for a sex scan. I think they're going to name her Lillian Jane. We've already decided that she and Christopher will get married someday! ;) That or they'll be as close as brother and sister.

2 Months Old!

Christopher is 2 months old today! Time sure has flown by fast! Here is what American Baby says about his developments:

Overview

What a charmer! The combination of your 2-month-old's environment and inherited temperament is forming his particular personality. By now, you can recognize his language and know when he's hungry, in pain, signaling for attention, tired, or just bored. You will become more sensitive to his needs and learn how best to reassure him.

Sensory stimulation is becoming more important to your baby. He wants you to talk to him, play with him, and show him new things. He also loves it when you interact with him--especially when you get silly. He will be fascinated when you shake your head, clap your hands, or stick your tongue out at him. He'll definitely protest if he's left alone for long.

Sometime in the next month or so, your baby will start to "converse." The sound of voices or music will not only quiet him when he's fussy, but also prompt him to reply in the form of gurgles and coos. He'll happily maintain a conversation of oohs and aahs for as long as 20 minutes.

Until now, your baby usually held his hands in a fist. This month, his hands will become more loosely clenched and eventually totally unflexed. He will stare at his hands and practice finger movements--and even register surprise when his hands reappear after having left his field of vision.

Your baby may begin to maintain a semisitting position with help. When he's lying on her belly, he can lift his chest up a bit. When you stand him up, he may hold his head up for a short time. He's also capable of raising his arms from his sides and bringing both hands together at the center of his body.

This is when you should begin babyproofing your home. Put your valuables, cleaning products, and plants out of reach. Anything your baby can reach should be unbreakable and nontoxic. Be aware of small objects that he could find and choke on.

By the end of the month, your baby may be sleeping as much as 10 hours at night, though he may sometimes wake for short stretches. He may fuss, but he'll gradually learn to stop waking as long as you don't rush in every time he wakes up.

If your baby has trouble getting to sleep when you put him to bed, he may not have been wide-awake enough during the day. Don't leave him in his crib too long while he is awake. On the other hand, he may not sleep well if he's had too much stimulation, particularly right before bedtime. Consider beginning a bedtime wind-down ritual that includes a small feeding, a brand-new diaper, and some cuddling.

Physical Development

• When on his stomach, leans on elbows, and can hold chest up and head erect for about 10 seconds
• Facial expressions, body tone, and vocalizations increase
• Reflexes disappear as actions become more voluntary
• When picked up, brings own body up compactly
• Grasp reflex disappearing, hands usually held open

Social Development

• Begins to recognize and differentiate family members
• Smiles easily and spontaneously
• Crying decreases
• May gurgle and coo in response to sounds

I'm in a dilemma about quitting work. I returned on Thursday, February 9 with the intentions of giving my 2 week notice by Monday, February 13. However, after talking to a co-worker, I'm going to try to get my boss to either fire me or "eliminate my position" so that I can collect unemployment. Since returning, there are a bunch of new rules, many of my duties have been reassigned and there's a new phone system that will have incoming calls routed directly to the person being called. Therefore, there's basically no need for a receptionist! Ever since returning, I have not been "enjoying" my job like before I left. My boss is trying to micromanage everything we do and it's really annoying! I was going to try and mention something to my boss about there being no need for me, but he left the office yesterday and I don't know when he'll be returning. I'm thinking about just not showing up so he'll get fed up with things and go ahead and take action soon. My mom's been staying home with Christopher, but it's starting to really wear her out. With her Multiple Sclerosis, I have to be really careful how much I let her do so she doesn't overwork herself. She goes for her Neurologist appointment tomorrow. I had a friend lined up to babysit Christopher for me, but her boss called her in to work, so she had to cancel on me. I tried calling one other friend, but was unable to reach her. Since it's such short notice, I'm just going to stay home from work tomorrow morning until my mom can return. I just hope her Neurologist doesn't ban her from continuing to help me!

7 Weeks 5 Days Old

Well, I return to work this Thursday. I have mixed feelings about it. I'm ready to get back into the swing of things and see everyone again, but I don't want to leave Christopher. We still haven't found childcare, so my mom is coming to stay with him for 2 weeks. I want to stay home with him myself, but really need the money so don't know how I could work it out right now. I would need some kind of Work-At-Home job. I've looked online, but those all seem like scams. One possibility would be with Shop At Home, but there are no openings at the moment; there probably won't be until at least the Spring. My other option would be to keep a couple of kids during the week. That's a major commitment, though, so we'll see.

Christopher had his 2-Month appointment yesterday (2/6). Here were his stats:

Weight: 11 lbs 4 oz (50th percentile)
Length: 21.5 inches (25th percentile)
Head Circ: 38 cm (25th percentile)

He also received his first round of shots, which, of course, he didn't like AT ALL! Poor thing! For the rest of the afternoon, he either slept or was really fussy. The good thing was that he had a good night again. For the 2nd night in a row, he slept for almost 7 hours! I put him to bed after his 9:30 feeding and he didn't wake me up until 4:30!!! Even better was that he only kept me up for 15 minutes last night compared to 45 minutes the night before. I hope this trend continues and gets even better! The convenient part is that, even though he ate at 4:30, he still got up at 6:30. That's a good thing since 6:30 is his first scheduled feeding for the day, which will be more important come Thursday when I return to work.

His next appointment is for his 4-Month Check-Up where he'll receive another round of shots. That'll be on April 7.
